Radio Script - Binary Opposites

We were told to write a script and record it using a recorder. We focused on the binary opposites of class. We see the characters juxtaposing in speech and formality  In the script we focused on two main characters, one was a ghetto boy named Johnny and the other was a posh girl called Janani. The ghetto character's dialogue consists of slang and fast paced language where as the girl speaks in RP which is very Standard English. Just by the way she speaks we are able to tell that she is of a higher class then Johnny the ghetto kid. Also the ghetto kid speaks in a colloquial and uneducated fashion which contradicts their current location which is school, a school is suppose to be an area of educating. He also talks in a much louder tone where as the girl is very calm and clear tone.

The boy uses various lexis and idiolects that come from his background and this shows through his speech. Slang is constant with the boys colloquial language which rarely follows a full sentence due to his unsure and unfamiliar language of formal English. The boy seems to continually ask questions which are answered by the girl which shows the power he has over her. On the other hand the dialogue which the girl uses is the complete opposite compared to the boy. She thinks before speaking and she uses more sophisticated and complex sentences  Overall this illustrates the educated background and upbringing she has, she always answers the boys questions but never asks. Lastly she refers to asking mother, this illustrates that she will also run through her plans with her mother and also by calling her Mother instead of Mum reinforces her posh side.

The tone used in there voices illustrates a different in social grade and class. The boy was bubbly and loud. He has a deeper accent and volume compared to the girl. He uses slang which then makes his voice high pitched and annoying, it also shows he has picked up a different tone of voice due to the people he associates with, the bad slang could also illustrate the rudeness of the boy this is due to us not understanding most of the words he is saying. He commonly uses abbreviations which lower his class compared to the girl. However the tone of voice which is used by the girl is very clear. Her social grade and class is higher than the boy just by the use of her long, elongated words which are spoken in a well-mannered, clear and posh tone which then tells us that she is higher up from him as she takes her time to speak and everything she says is clearly spoken.

From the description given of the scenery you can tell that the school is a run downed, public school which holds students from various background and cultures, there is a wide mix from good but mainly bad students would attend. In the scene the boy answers his phone during a lesson, the fact that he answers his phone in the middle of a conversation illustrates his bad manors and rudeness. He begins to try and skip her plans with her family to come to a party which is happening during the week. When the phone rings the girl warns him to put it away however his attitude is different and he does not seem to care and answered it casually.

Radio Script

Scene begins with two twelve year old kids discussing their weekend plans. There is music playing in the background (Tupac). Ambulance/ police sirens going on in the background. The school is rough and very disorderly, all the teachers have given up and are casually smoking. The tables are thrown about, the chairs are all over the place, there are shards of glass on the floor.

Ghetto kid – Yo……Yo Janani, you done the essay?

( Janani has an aghast look)
Posh – Johnny?! You..don’t drink?! Do you?! You can’t! You’re underage!
Johnny – I turn 13 next week next week inni BMT!!!!
Posh – What is BMT? Bacon lettuce and tomato?!
Johnny – No…… big man ting!!!!
Posh – oh okay…….

Posh – I’ll have to ask mother about it because we have dinner plans.
Johnny – BUN THOSE DINNER PLANS!
Posh Girl – Uncle Albert and Auntie Jane will be ever so devastated!
Johnny – FOR REAL?! BEG YOU SHUT UP!
Scene ends with a gun shot
Johnny – Oh I think that was the bell.

Hotel B - Ethnicity

Binary opposites are portrayed through the use of camera, editing, sound and mise-en-scene. I will be picking and choosing two different scenes to illustrate the binary opposites of ethnicity. Claud Levi invented the theory, he believed that there are direct opposites in every character in every movie/show e.g. good vs evil.

There is a clip in "Hotel B" were the immigration team went looking round the hotel they instantly found a suspect. Once we aware of the situation the cameras begins it's magic with a close-up we begin to feel as it we as an audience are in his position and to reinforce this idea  shot- reverse-shot is used once the black male notices the immigration team. Also a fast zoom is used to reinforce the shock of the suspect and yet again we are able to see his facial expression at an even closer and more discomforting look. With these shots we are able to acquire information about the immigrate, he works as a cleaner, who appears to b e 20-25 and is a working social class. With the shallow focus I am able to pick out certain parts as my eyes only focus on him as he is the only thing that is in focus. Also in this scene the shots are put together with straight and fast speed (action match). This gives us a real feel of the scene and we begin to get excited and instantly become more engaged and interested in the show. A major part of analysing which is usually missed out is sound, it starts the mood board. There is both diagetic and non-diegetic sounds, for example when the man notices the team he gasps in terror and shock, this is a diegetic sound and because of this we are able to tell how worried and shocked he is in that moment in time. However there is also non diegetic sound as music is also playing in the background. It has a serious melody to it, once the action and the fast motion editing begins the sound gradually gets louder. The soundtrack was picked deliberately to fit the theme of the scene. This also informs vs about the type of hotel it really is, serious and tone. Lastly the mise-en-scene is vital for example the clothes he is wearing illustrates that he is working class,  the colour of the clothes maroon jump suit. The overall lighting in this shot is very well lit and there are no shadows, this can link in with the positioning of the black male, for example he is in the corridor which is unsafe and is easily seen thus why they used the high key lighting.

Comparing this I will be talking about the scene which is at the start of the "Hotel B" clip, this is where the police come from the back of the hotel to barricade people from leaving....

Did not finish in time, need to write faster.

Hustle - Gender - Mock Exam

I will be disusing both genders from a clip of the show "Hustle". I will talk about the female who plays a leading role in this scene and I will compare her with the con man.

We as an audience are instantly introduced by three characters and we are able to categorical them in a matter of seconds, with the use of social grades, styles and not forgetting to mention dialogue. The shop keeps speaks very sarcastically to the first women due to her limited amount of spending money, whereas when he spoke to the blond high class women he spoke as if he was lower then her and that she was more important then him. Once approaching the women we are able to judge her personality by her costume and style. The stereotypical blond is completely thrown off as she speaks with a very classic English which links in with the tight suit which demonstrates her business and professional side. However her red nails conotates danger and illustrates that she is dangerous even if she doesn't necessarily portray it. Once she is assisted by the male he informs her about a very expensive branded dress which she then try's on, the camera quickly cuts to the scene and focuses on her silver high heels. She beings saying "Yes, Oh yes!" which sound very sexual and as we have limited view we are unable to see what's happening. he camera slowly rises as she continue sly says the phrase, we then come to understand and see that actually she is looking at the dress in the mirror and she is saying the phrase because she feels the dress is perfect. There is a constant glamorous melody through out the whole scene so far which illustrate the classic and elegant side to the shop, it creates a rich feel to the atmosphere. We are able to instantly tell that because she has money the assistant will be extra nice specially compared to the first customer who he treated with sarcasm. The camera then swoops to the new scene which is near the till, whilst the man folds the expensive dress with extreme care, as if it was a new born. Whilst she rumbles through her purse. Half way through her ring which was given to her is missing and she has to complete change of personality, she beings throwing her belonging around as if they are nothing, whereas for some it's as if she is throwing her riches and damaging physically but also metaphorically as her image is getting destroyed as she throws her belongings around. The audience are able to see this with the use of a mid shot. The camera plays a huge part in the next scene as it begins following her around the shop whilst she searches her ring, quick cuts and fast shots also play a major role as it gives the audience a sense that she is worried but at the same time she is rushing . The sound has a drastic change from smothe melody to fast pace jazz. Whilst looking for the ring she begins disorganising the shop and destroying its classic image and feel to a very scruffy and ill looked after shop in a matter of seconds. She is then reassured and begins to await a call for her missing ring from the assistant, whilst she leaves the male comforters hers with his words "You can trust me". She hands him her business card which brings her business side back to the scene and back from her wild and rough behaviour. She then offers a £5000 reward for whoever finds the missing ring, this illustrates the type of person she is and that the ring means so much to her that she is willing to pay a high price for the finder and thus illustrates to us that she doesn't care about how much money she has to give to find that ring. She then leaves with last dialogue "I'm sure I am" which refers to the trust of the shop assistant. She smirks and leaves in a rush. The close-up used once the woman was talking evolves into a mid shot of her leaving and walking down the stairs. The audience now begin to feel as if we are apart as she speaks directly to the camera and no one else.

Later on a male walks in and stands next to the assistance who is on all fours. This implies that the shop assistant is like a dog and he is use to being commanded and lead. Then a close up is used on the male customers shoes which are very 1920s style which links with the style of music of "Jazz". This then links back to when Jazz themed music was actually played in the scene of her looking for her ring, this gives the audience a clue and feel that he actually plays a role in the missing ring even though there is no evidence to prove it. However he pretends to find the ring on the floor but had it in his hand all along, the audience then become confused and enigmas array. A shallow focus was used on the hand to give all focus on the hand and nothing else. He then explains that he has found a ring and the assistance kindly asks for the ring.  he changes his personality just so he can obtain the ring and get the reward, but what he doesn't know is that the man is in on the whole scheme and in fact he is attempting to scam him with the help of the woman. The roles are then reversed and the shop keeper begins to get up, he is taller then the customer and is dressed to a smarter standard, he is wearing glasses which also give him an intelligent side and this is backed up with his use of language and unfamiliar words. On the other hand the other guy is wearing a suit but no tie and a necklace to give him that casual look.

Mark Wahlberg to join Transformers 4?

Michael Bay thanks the internet for giving him the idea

Last month saw online message boards awash with talk of Mark Wahlberg being cast in Transformers 4. Michael Bay promptly came out and dismissed the speculation, but it sounds as though the whole affair has given the director an idea…

It seems as though after dismissing the speculation, Bay actually gave it some thought, and decided that it wouldn’t be such a bad idea after all.

"I squashed a rumour that was on the internet last week,” said Bay on his blog. “It was about Mark Wahlberg. Mark was rumoured to be starring inTransformers 4. We are working on another movie together, not T4.

“I had such a great time working with Mark on Pain And Gain, and he gave such a great performance,” continues Bay, “let's say that very internet chatter gave me some ideas. We are at the inception of our story process right now on T4. Let's say some ideas are gaining traction with me and my writer - so I'm here to say thanks to internet chatter.”

So does that mean we might see Marky-Mark going up against the Decepticons after all? It’s certainly not a confirmation, but it does at least sound as though Bay is giving it some thought. Bravo, geeks. Bravo…
Would you like to see Wahlberg involved? Tell us, below!

Mise-en-scène Photographs

Photograph 1

 Photograph 2

The wall in this photo seems very old and broken, as if it’s been up for quite some time. The green part of the rocks illustrates that the wall hasn't been cleaned in a while and now has algae. The algae suggests that there is an indexical sign of dampness and this portrays the harsh lifestyle of the dog. The lifestyle could also suggest the harsh reality of the country. The cracks can illustrate that there has been damage given to the walls and that the wall can connotate the dogs life of being very bumpy and ragged. The dog seems to be tied up to a chain, this illustrates that he is locked up and is unable to have freedom. The chain could also be indexical for the dog being rough and bad thus needing to be chained to not cause harm around him. The chain is also indexical because we can tell that the dog has an owner and that it’s not free like the other dogs. The dog in this shot is not looking at/into the camera which suggest that he does not care about people around him and by him looking another way could suggest that he is thinking about something else more important. The direction of the dog could also be indexical as it seems as if hes looking into his future and attempting to find out what will happen to him/her in the future.  Also the background of the dog seems as if its a cave, a cave is known as being dark, alone and cold. This illustrates the living conditions of the dog and how badly treated he/she is. Overall my first impression of this photo is very isolated and lonely and seems as if he's looking for a new lifestyle.

First full trailer for Iron Man 3: watch now

Robert Downey Jr. is back

Iron Man 3 has finally released a full trailer - after lot of teasing - and you can watch it here.

The Marvel threequel carries more weight than your average superhero installment, as it’s the first piece in Marvel’s Phase Two puzzle, following the stonking success of The Avengers.

This time around, Tony Stark is back at his lowest ebb, after riding high with the superteam. The official synopsis states that the genius billionaire playboy philanthropist “finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands” and has to rely on his ingenuity and instincts to fight back.

It’s fairly safe to say that it’s Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin who’s causing Stark all that grief.

Watch the Iron Man 3 trailer online now:
Needless to say, it looks like the destruction of the Malibu beach house will be one of 2013's most spectacular set pieces.

For the eagle-eyed, there are a couple of glimpses at Guy Pearce's Aldrich Killian (one of 100 people who want to kill Stark) and Rebecca Hall's Maya Hansen. And it looks like Iron Patriot will be wreaking a fair amount of destruction.

Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) takes over directorial duties for Part 3, though Jon Favreau’s staying on as Happy Hogan.

Also starring Gwyneth Paltrow, James Badge Dale and Don Cheadle, Iron Man 3 opens in the UK on 26 April 2013 (before opening in the US on 3 May 2013).

Doctor Who G322 Essay - Binary Opposites

This specific clip is of Doctor Who, we clearly see two characters of the binary opposites which represent gender in two distinctive ways. The female in the clip (known as Martha) illustrates the side of the female, and the master illustrates the male side of the gender. Gender is portrayed through two different characters and in two different ways. In this essay i will explain how each character portrays there role in gender. Binary opposites was created by Levis Strauss and his strategy has been featured in most, not if all films and TV shows to illustrate differences between two characters.

Once starting the clip we are introduced by a male side to gender, we instantly recognize his costume which consists of a black and white suit. He is well groomed with a clean haircut and shaven, by seeing this we as an audience are able to tell he is very organized and likes to keep things in order such as his appearance. By the dialogue of the male we can tell at that moment in time he has a good amount of power in comparison to the female, this making him more successful then the female. Moreover he is standing on a higher level compared to everyone else in the scene, this reinforcing his power and how each character is below him both metaphorically and physically. Once Martha (female actress) walks through the doors and gradually gets closer to the male he does a hand gesture for her to come over here, a gesture which is commonly used to call a dog over, as the male does this it is implying that the women is a dog and that he has the power to call her over and command here, this gives the male a very arrogant look and makes us as an audience know he has no respect for women. He doesn't begin with small talk such as "Hi, how are you doing?", he immediately begins commanding her and making her give up what's rightfully hers, this is very stereotypical as the male is in command over the woman. Yet again he begins ordering her to kneel and shows no kindness towards her even though she is weaker and younger, then a close up shot is used to frame only the mans head and shoulders, this giving him the importance of that shot and giving him more power and make him more important. Furthermore the camera then uses a low angel mid shot to once again illustrate his power as the women is looking up at him and Martha has no power over him. Due to the tone of voice we are enouraged to think that he has a powerful side to him which makes him seem as if hes full of himself, this is beacuse the tone is very bold clear which sounds as if hes standing his ground. We also notice no one talks when he is talking, this reinforces how the people around him are scared of him. A mid-shot is not just used to illustrate that he is looking at a watch which looks highly expensive but also to portray his personality, we can tell he is married as he is wearing a wedding ring. Overall we can tell he has a lot more compared to Martha who seems very bare and has nothing. Smirks and small jokes are used throughout the clip as he needs to find ways to amuse himself as no one wants to, he is forced to occupy himself. We are enouraged to think that the male is the strongest person in the room which is reinforced with the camera which is going around the room viewings everyone's facial expressions and how they are worried about what's going to happen next.

Moving on to Martha who is the main female in this scene, she is seem very differently in the scene and is completely opposite to the male, both personality and gender. Also immediately she is introduced with two body guards who are coated in black walking with her, by her side which gives her a tough side as she needs people to hold her down and walk her into the room. Yet again we instantly feel as if she is vulnerable and needs protection of men as she is young and is a female. Whilst she walks in to the new environment she looks around and searchers for help as she is in need of help. This illustrates the  harsh ways Martha is being treated because she is a women and a younger one at that. We understand how scared she is as she directly looks at the man then to a friendly face for guidance. Once the man commands her to give up her belonging she instantly throws it to him and doesn't question him about it either, this highlights that she doesn't want to get into any trouble as she has no power over him. Moreover the male orders her to kneel down and yet again she doesn't complain or argue, this illustrating the complete ownership of the alpha male.  The expression she lets off throughout the whole clip is very blank and once the man begins his speech she does not stop him and she just listens. Then the whole mood changes, she begins to laugh as we think she is going to give in to him. Martha seems as if she begins to attempt to take control by changing the mood.  She completely changes the way she responds to him and now answers with one worded answers, then Martha becomes stronger and stronger with each word, as if she's is gaining power from an unknown source. She then begins doubting his words and him as a person, she also began patronizing him with words such as "A gun?". Martha now has gained the power in the situation but the male is still shocked, he doesn't believe that a women would have the intelligence to override his master plan and ultimately go behind his back and destroy his plans. However Martha was able to break such a plan and we begin to understand how she became the leader of the situation and stands up for the man, not only does it seem as if  she is standing up for herself but also the women population. Martha now begins to be in many close ups and speaks with a deeper and serious tone which overall makes us feel as if she is speaking power. Furthermore the man still doubts her even though she has backed her points up and clearly knows what she is talking about. Martha has stripped the power from the man and has taken it for herself which is unusual and unique.

Overall I have been able to see how binary opposites are used in this specific clip and how half way through the roles changed. Martha represented the female side and illustrate how they have no power but that's just stereotyping and they can actually have lots of power within. People think women are there to obey orders from men however she turned that around and began ordering the man around and told him what to do for a change. Moreover the male didn't expect the woman to obtain power and therefore defeat him in the end.

Dark Knight Rises cinematographer Wally Pfister calls The Avengers ‘appalling’

“I was driven bonkers by that illogical form of storytelling”

The Dark Knight Rises’ Wally Pfister is one of the pre-eminent cinematographers working today, thanks in no small part to his work on Christopher Nolan’s films.

He’s currently working on his own directorial debut (details of which are very hush-hush), and he recently sat down for a chat with the Herald Tribune.

The most interesting thing that emerged from the conversation however, regarded TDKR’s superhero rival, The Avengers.

When asked, ‘What’s most important in shooting a film?’, Pfister responded, “What’s really important is storytelling. None of it matters if it doesn’t support the story.

“I thought The Avengers was an appalling film. They’d shoot from some odd angle and I’d think, why is the camera there? Oh, I see, because they spent half a million on the set and they have to show it off. It took me completely out of the movie. I was driven bonkers by that illogical form of storytelling.”

Not a fan then. Earlier in the interview, he even expressed hesitation at taking on Batman Begins:

“I’m not a big superhero fan. In terms of the movie-going experience for me, I love the realistic stuff because it’s just that much less formulaic. When I was first approached by Christopher [Nolan] for Batman Begins I was like, really? A guy in a rubber suit?”

The Dark Knight Rises hits DVD and Blu-ray on 3 December 2012.

Kristen Stewart talks about finishing The Twilight Saga

Exclusive: “It’s pretty easy to walk away.”

Kristen Stewart talks about the mixed feelings of finishing up The Twilight Saga with Breaking Dawn - Part 2 in the current issue ofTotal Film magazine.

It’s available for just £1.99 on your iPad, and also features contributions from Stewart’s co-stars Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, but here’s a sneak peak.

When we asked if it was sad or liberating to be finishing Twilight, Stewart responded, “Both. Fleetingly sad and maybe then once or twice after. Like when you suddenly smell something that reminds you of being on set. But it’s not sad in between those moments, because I feel like no stone was left unturned.

“Everyone thinks it’s hard to say goodbye, but it’s harder to say goodbye to crews and casts that I’ve only spent five weeks with. This was four years. I’m ready to say goodbye. I’m perfectly fine.

“Once the story has been told, you feel like you’ve done all you can do. It’s pretty easy to walk away. It’s not like it’s going anywhere. This one’s mine, forever.”

Monsters University gets a brilliant website

Enrol at MU!

Monsters University, Pixar’s eagerly-awaited prequel to Monsters, Inc., is quietly positioning itself as one of the most exciting filmic prospects of 2012.

A new tie-in website has been launched at monstersuniversity.com/edu, and rather than being a bland assortment of your usual promo material, it presents itself as an actual educational institution, with student testimonials, admissions info, alumni news and tons more.

Check it out, though be warned, you could easily end up losing your day to this incredibly detailed tie-in.

This approach is always a winner with us, favouring world-building detail over the hard sell, and increasing our anticipation without resorting to a deluge of spoilers.

We’re extremely tempted by an MU hoodie too (though it’s a shame the four-armed t-shirt is out of stock).

Monsters University takes a trip down memory lane to visit Mike and Sulley during their days in higher education, before they were Monstropolis’ top scare team.

It opens in the UK on 12 July 2013 (although those lucky US-based folk get it on 21 June).

Film Language – Technical Features

Camera Shots, Angle, Movement and Composition

The angle, focus and position of the camera always have a purpose, not just which it illustrates. It’s all done to represent something or someone in a particular way. In the clip “Hotel B” once the immigration team went looking round the hotel they instantly found a suspect. Once we are aware of the situation the camera works its magic. A close-up is used to represent the suspect’s facial expression, as we are so close we begin to feel as if we were in his position and we are able to feel what he’s going through. A fast zoom is used to reinforce the shock of the suspect and yet again we are able to see his facial expression at a closer look, The zoom and close-up are as if they are working together, both of their camera shots and movement is able to cut more of the background out making the audience focus on the subject, not what’s happening in the background. The camera also gives us enough information to understand that the subject is a black male who is an immigrant who works as a cleaner in a hotel, he appears to be around 20-25 and a working social class. I am able to tell this with the help of the shallow focus which is at place. I am able to purely focus on the male instead of anything else in the background which make cause distraction.

Editing (Post production)

Editing is a major part of any film work as it also helps the representation and meaning of a shot with the transitions and cutting of scenes. For example, when the black male sees the immigration team he begins to flee, straight after the close-up zoom shot. Three to four shots are shown with straight cuts and at quick speed (action match). This gives us a feel of the scene and with the fast cuts and fast motion shots we begin to get excited with the show and instantly become more interested and concentrated as you want to see what will happen next. We are able to tell what type of people the immigration team are due to the way they grab the male suspect and how quick they did so. It represented them as a very serious team which are not there to mess around, these reinforces the serious side of the scene.

Sound

Sound holds a huge part of film/tv show even though you might not notice it, it’s a mood starter and it sets the scenes. For example, going back to the scene of the male suspect being caught by the immigration team. There is a both diegetic and non-diegetic. Once the man notice’s he gasps which is a diegetic sound, just because of this sound we are able to tell how shocked and worried he is at that moment in time, but at the same time a non-diegetic sound is playing in the background, the backing music has a serious melody to it and once the action happens and the fast motion editing gets in place the sound gradually gets louder, as if it’s getting to you in real life. This grabs the attention of the audience. The soundtrack was picked deliberately to fit the theme of the scene. This also informs us about the type of hotel it really is, serious and tense.

Mise-en-Scène

Once in the small confined room all the immigrants are worried about what’s going to happen to them. The lightning and colour then take action to make that feeling really come to life, with the low key lighting and spot light like lights it reinforces the fast there in a confined space and that there all in a very depressing state at the time as there friend is unable is missing from the pack and faces getting caught. There’s lots of shadows on all the other characters who don’t have a big part in the scene and this makes them feel less important in the scene, this is also done when the unconscious woman becomes conscious, one of the male immigrants knew about the woman’s problem and was able to help her, whereas the woman who actually was helping the immigrants didn’t. Shadows then took place when she raised her head up and thanked the man. Also the Filming of the program took place in a location where as other programs would have probably been in a studio and a studio you have more freedom with the camera as you know how much space you need/want. The immigrant who got caught was wearing a uniform which was a brown/redy colour. It was clear to the audience that it was the cleaning uniform as one of the male immigrant says a line when there all in the small room "I wasn't always a cleaner". He was wearing the same uniform as the male who got caught meaning its the cleaners uniform. Other uniforms were present such as chiefs and female cleaner uniform. This also represent there working social glass and their status e.g. Cleaner for the hotel.

Adele’s Skyfall single gets an official release date

Available from 5 October 2012

Since it was confirmed that Adele would be singing the theme song for James Bond’s latest movie outing Skyfall, we’ve been desperate to hear a snippet of it.

We won’t have to wait much longer as the official release date of the single has been announced on Adele’s Facebook page, shortly after she tweeted an image of herself in the recording studio.

In a neat move, the single will be available in the UK from 0.07hrs BST (see what they did there?) on Friday 5 October. At least we know what we’ll be listening to at 0.08.

The cover art for the single (above) basically blends Adele’s face into the first Skyfall poster, and would seem to confirm that the song is also called Skyfall.

Skyfall, the 23rd official film in the James Bond series opens in the UK on 26 October 2012.

Rupert Wyatt to leave Apes sequel?

Director apparently unhappy with tight release schedule

Sep 18th 2012

Having revitalised the Planet Of The Apes series with the excellent Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, it was perhaps inevitable that Fox would want to hang on to director Rupert Wyatt for the sequel.

Officially titled Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, the sequel is set to pick up where the last film left off, as the ape-carried virus begins to spread through humankind with disastrous effects, resulting in a global pandemic.

Wyatt had agreed to direct the follow-up, but according to Deadline, he’s having second thoughts due to the film’s extremely tight release date of 23 May 2014. Fox has declined to comment, but if rumours are to be believed, they’ll have to move quickly to find a replacement.

The situation is reminiscent of Gary Ross’s exit from the Hunger Games franchise, having declined the opportunity to direct the second film on account of Lionsgate’s ludicrously tight production schedule. Francis Lawrence, his replacement, also seems unlikely to return for round three for similar reasons.

Time is now very much of the essence for Fox, who are reportedly happy with the script submitted by writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. If Wyatt does jump ship, expect a replacement to be announced sooner rather than later.

Thoughts:
I chose this article as I found it interesting to see how Rupert Wyatt has the opportunity to direct such a fantastic film and just because of the close deadline he feels the need to get out of the situation. This will put more work to FOX as they if this is all true they have to find a replacement.

Example Camera Shots/Angles

Mid shot
I used a mid shot for this photo so I could demonstrate her loneliness. Her hands and body posturer have been placed like that on purpose to add that uncomfortable look. I used a mid shot as I needed a good amount of her body to illustrate he positioning.

Close Up/ Low angle
I used a close up to illustrate that we are looking at the exit sign meaning someone's probably running away/out of the building. A low angle was used to demonstrate the power that the sign has and how it leads so many people to safety.

Canted Show
In this specific shot i felt that a canted showed would go fell as it gives the audience that sense of discomfort and how each girl seems to really be looking at the audience as if he/she is someone they do not like. The tilting of each girls head reinforces the sense of discomfort.

Establishing shot
I used an establishing shot to represent the new location for the viewers, once having a shot of the library for about 2 seconds we are able to tell that the the next scene will be placed in the library.

Long Shot/ Eye Level
I wanted to use a long shot to represent her full body posture and the surrounding she is in. As she is standing in the middle of a long corridor we are able to tell she is lost, probably due to how BIG the school is. I felt that Eye level would be best as it would give the audience that sense that the camera is another person and we are following her.

Worm's eye view
I wanted to use an effect worms eye view so we used a great software provided by Apple for iphones which places the available light where we want it (just by a touch of our fingers!). We just flipped the camera on the iphone and took the photo. This is shown to be a worms eye view as its as if the audience is looking up at the humans and that they as an audience are vulnerable.

Extreme Close UP
I used an extreme close up in this situation to tell the emotion of the cat, just by the cats eye which is closed we are able to tell she is tired/sleeping which could be due to a long day of work/play.

High angle
I used a high angle so that us as an audience looked like we have more power to  the people we are looking down on someone.  In this photo we can tell that the boy is sad and scared of us as he's looking up at us with a very emotional face.

Bird's eye view

This is a shot from above in the sky looking down at target. It can express how quiet or how bust a certain area is, it also delivers a lot of mise-en-scene. This shot is very effective in a chase scene.

New Avengers easter egg revealed

By George Wales
Tony Stark has plans for Stark Tower         Sep 17th 2012
A previously unnoticed easter egg has been uncovered within The Avengers, with MTV noticing some exciting plans for Tony Stark’s latest upgrade to Stark tower.

Throughout the film, the tower is pictured with the word “Stark” written across it, with only the letter A remaining after the battle with the Chitauri. A nice reference to “Avengers” we thought, absent-mindedly, at the time.

Now it turns out that Stark might already have been thinking of changing the name, with a screenshot of some of his blueprints revealing the words “Avengers Tower”.

Does this mean that Stark is planning to convert Stark Tower into a new headquarters for the Avengers? Given that the Helicarrier went up in smoke, it’s not as if they couldn’t use one. And people think Stark is selfish...

Perhaps that’s where the new team will be based in The Avengers 2? We’ll find out for sure when the film opens in the UK on 1 May 2015.

Thoughts:
I found this article on Total Film (http://www.totalfilm.com/news/new-avengers-easter-egg-revealed) and instantly became engaged. I am a huge Avengers fan and watched the movie once it released in cinemas, i was one of those anxious fans waiting to watch the movie, counting down the days. Finally to hear there been an Easter egg giving us an insight to the sequel of "The Avengers" excites me! I find Easter eggs an interesting and fun way for the fans of the particular type of movie to pay attention to the little details in the movie, some fans would go to the extream and re watch the movie to find them (or just youtube them). I have also seen this on movies such as Toy Story. Easter eggs give us clues as to whats going to happen in the next movie.

Example of Easter Egg

Pixar is known for adding Easter eggs in their animated movies.

Media AS Mock (September)

Monarch of the Glen creates two excellent examples of opposing representation of age which links well with Levi-Straus' theory of binary opposites within a narrative, causing conflict. I will be discussing how both 'youth' and 'mature' are presented such as 'youth' are unreliable and 'mature' being traditional.

Amy's personality is spread through the clip with her dialogue, background and costume. With her bright yellow top we are able to work out that she feels the need to be different and by doing that she will be able to illustrate her personality at the same time. In contrast to Amy's t-shirt everyone one else is wearing very earthy colours and haven't made an effort to look different. Mid shots and log shots are used to illustrate her outfit, coloures are spreaded everywhere and on everything, even her hair band is a different colour compared to an older characters which is plain black. We begin to understand that Amy enjoys customizing herself in somewhat way, for instants she walks with a slouch, whereas everybody else walks with a straight back. Her eye make up even has a blue tint to match her youthful outfit.

Once Amy is trusted with a mature task she still goes ahead and does it just to look older and more mature, that's what youths dream of. Once she gets in to the car she mutterings words such as "clutch". From the viewers understanding she is thinking back on her driving lessons even though she said to Paul (Which is like her father in the clips we watched) that she passed first time, just by the fact that she lied about a situation which could be dangerous illustrates her childish personality and how youths such as Amy should not be trusted. Going back to when she was attempting to start the car, the mature young man stopped what he was doing and watched the car as she was taking a long time to do a simple task for someone who passed her license first time. Once she gets into the car crash with her headteacher, Amy gets out of the car to witness the damage she has done due to her youthful decisions of acting older then she really is. The older males guard Amy as if she is a piece of treasure, she begins to curl p behind the men once she notices who she crashed into, her headmaster. She knew she was in trouble. This explains Amy's reasons for running/moving away. She wants to be older and more mature.

Moving on the father like figure demands Amy to pack and he got to response of "I hate you". After hearing this I fully understand the headmasters view on Amy and how she really is a child and she backs my point up by a phrase which is said by very young children when they don't get there own way.

In contrast the headmaster approaches the clip once the incident happens. Once he gets out of the car his body is very straight which reinforces the serious side of him, he spoke with a a aggressive tone once he found out who caused the incident. The laid out the basics of the mature roll, even the outfit worn, the colours were very bland and earth like compared to Amy's outrageous yellow top. He was very well groomed with a blazer, shirt and tie, which represents his personality as dedicated and sophisticated. Once in the house, he asks for a brandy, a brandy is an alcoholic beverage which youths such as Amy are not allowed to drink. But also Brandy is a very strong drink which reinforces his personality of a mature manor.
