The wall in this photo
seems very old and broken, as if it’s been up for quite some time. The green
part of the rocks illustrates that the wall hasn't been cleaned in a while and
now has algae. The algae suggests that there is an indexical sign of
dampness and this portrays the harsh lifestyle of the dog. The lifestyle
could also suggest the harsh reality of the country. The cracks can illustrate
that there has been damage given to the walls and that the wall can connotate
the dogs life of being very bumpy and ragged. The dog seems to be tied up to a chain, this
illustrates that he is locked up and is unable to have freedom. The chain could
also be indexical for the dog being rough and bad thus needing to be chained to
not cause harm around him. The chain is also indexical because we can tell
that the dog has an owner and that it’s not free like the other dogs. The dog
in this shot is not looking at/into the camera which suggest that he does not
care about people around him and by him looking another way could suggest that
he is thinking about something else more important. The direction of the dog
could also be indexical as it seems as if hes looking into his future and
attempting to find out what will happen to him/her in the future. Also the background of the dog seems as if its a cave, a cave is known as being dark, alone and cold. This illustrates the living conditions of the dog and how badly treated he/she is. Overall my first impression of this photo is very isolated and lonely and seems as if he's looking for a new lifestyle.
